"God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen"
18th Century Traditional English Carol

Marching Band Style.

(This arrangement was influenced in part, by my interest in marching band drum cadences.)

"And the angel said to them, Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which shall be for all people; for today in the city of david there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."
Luke 2:10-11 (New American Standard Version)

VERSE 1

God rest you merry, gentlemen,
Let nothing you dismay,
For Jesus Christ our Savior,
Was born upon this day,
To save us all from Satan's power,
When we were gone astray.

Refrain

O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy;
O tidings of comfort and joy!

VERSE 3

From God our heavenly Father
A blessed angel came,
And unto certain shepherds
Brought tidings of the same,
How that in Bethlehem was born
The Son of God by name.

VERSE 5

Now to the Lord sing praises,
All you with-in this place,
And with true love and brotherhood
Each other now embrace;
This holy tide of Christmas
All other doth deface.
